Climb to new heights on Scotland’s iconic Antarctic explorer, and raise vital funds to help more young people across Scotland experience the life-changing power of adventure through Scouts.
The Discovery Mast Challenge gives participants the chance to take on an unforgettable adventure aboard the historic RRS Discovery in Dundee. You’ll climb the ship’s rigging, scale the mast high above the deck and take in incredible views of the waterfront before making a thrilling zipline descent back to the shore.
This will be an amazing day to show Scotland what Scouting is all about, challenge yourself, have lots of fun and raise money to support more young people across Scotland to join the adventure of Scouting.

Fundraising Target: £250
We’re asking all participants to pay a £30 to secure your spot. Any additional funds raised over the £250 can be used to support your local Scout group or your own Scouting fundraising goals.

About the Discovery Mast Challenge
The Discovery Mast Challenge lets participants experience what it was like for Captain Scott and the crew of the famous 1901 Antarctic expedition ship RRS Discovery.
You’ll:
Climb rope ladders and authentic rigging
Reach heights of up to 25m above deck – find out how many stories of a house this is and add
Traverse the ship’s yardarm
Descend via a controlled zip-line over the waterfront
Who can take part
To keep everyone safe, participants must meet the following requirements:
Minimum age: 12
Minimum height: 140cm
Maximum weight: 120kg
Must be comfortable climbing and working at height
Participants aged 12-17, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must also hold a Discovery Mast Climb ticket if they wish to participate, or a Discovery Point museum ticket if they do not wish to participate.
