This course is ideal for: People who lead groups in the hills or might venture away from obvious paths but won’t encounter mountain hazards like steep rocky ground. Commonly used in terrain that presents an intermediate level of challenge\, for example Dartmoor\, the Peak District\, North York Moors\, Pentland Hills and the Sperrins. \nDates and costs\nThe course will run over 3 days.\nThe course costs £240 per person. But not only that\, gaining new skills\, meeting other leaders from across the country and making the most of being outdoors. \nThere are six courses you can choose from for the weekend:\nPaddlesport Leader Training – British Canoeing Awarding Body Paddlesport Leader Training courses are available to support you in your development of the required skills. These courses typically cover leadership skills\, and the associated personal skills\, safety and rescue skills.\nPaddlesport Core Coach Training – The Core Coach Training is open to all paddlers regardless your discipline or previous coaching experience. During this course\, you will explore different approaches to understanding and enabling learning. You will also be supported in evolving your personal coaching development plan to enable you to take your learning into practice after the course.\nClimbing Wall Instructor Training – If you’re a keen climber or climbing permit holder then this course is the perfect next level for you! Ideal for: Climbing wall staff\, young people who’ve completed NICAS Level 4 or 5\, people who run climbing sessions on artificial walls or towers. As a Scout Leader\, if you are looking to take a group to a national climbing center/commercial wall then this is the pathway for you!\nLeave No Trace – Level 1 Instructor – This two-day course is designed for individuals who will be delivering Leave No Trace Workshops and Leave No Trace Skills Courses* in the future or embedding Leave No Trace in other programmes. Through short classroom discussions\, outdoor lectures and outdoor activities\, this course will cover the seven Leave No Trace principles and discuss outdoor ethics in the UK.\nRLSS National Water Safety Management – The National Water Safety Management Programme embraces contemporary approaches to risk management by balancing the need for simple pro-active safety management practices\, with a strong focus on preventative measures along with effective emergency response skills.\nREC Emergency Care Level 2 – The outdoor first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practicals intermixed with scenarios of real situations. \nDates\nThe event will take place from the 2nd – 4th October. Whether you’d like to feel more confident using a map\, you have ambitions to climb Everest or become a Mountain Leader\, a Mountain Skills course is a great first step.\nThis is a Progression into more mountainous terrain from the Hill Skills and a reasonable level of fitness is recommended for this course as it will take place in higher terrain\, with 5-6 hours spent on the hill and the potential for an evening session included as well. Attendance of a Hill Skills course or 10 logged Mountain Days are a prerequisite for this course. All of our Skills Courses will be ran by our Mountain Training Scotland approved tutor team. \nCourses include: \nA navigational timing card \nA certificate of attendance for completing each course\nLifetime use of our digital logbook (DLOG) for recording your mountain walking\nParticipants get 15% off at Cotswold Outdoor and Snow+Rock\, in store and online. SUMMARY:Meggernie Almost Haunted
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this is not a West Region event. For full details and to register\, please visit the original event page: https://scouts.scot/event/meggernie-almost-haunted/ \nWhat is it? – An Explorer event with a ghoulish twist!\nYou should arrive on Friday night though the programme doesn’t begin until Saturday morning. Friday night will therefore be a chance to set up camp then chill out getting to know some of the other participants.\nSaturday will be packed with activities.\nA gentle start on Sunday morning followed by more activities before packing up and heading for home by 2pm.\nThe camp is under canvas\, bring your own tents.\nThe camp is fully catered starting with a light supper on Friday night and including lunch on Sunday.\nWhat does it cost? The cost of the event is £58 per person. This includes camp fees\, food\, activities but travel is not included.\nPlaces will be allocated on a first come basis.
