New Regional Commissioner Ian Hunter

West Region Scouts are delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Hunter as our new Regional Commissioner.

Ian is a well-known figure across the Region, having been the District Commissioner for Renfrewshire for the past six years.
He takes up his full appointment with immediate effect.
Scouts Scotland Chief Commissioner Andrew Sharkey, who has been acting as Regional Commissioner for West Region said: “I am delighted to welcome Ian on board as our newest Regional Commissioner. He brings not just a wealth of experience but a proven track record in successful Scouting to the role. I am looking forward to working with him as we grow and develop Scouting in West Region.”
Ian said: “I am really excited to be taking on this new role as Regional Commissioner. I am under no illusion that there is a big job to do as we have not had somebody in the role for some time now but that is a challenge I am relishing.
“There are some great people within the Region, and I look forward to building on the team already in place and working with our Districts to ensure the future success of West Region.”
Ian has been involved in Scouting most of his life. He joined the 171st Glasgow as a Cub, and worked his way through the sections, earning his Queens Scout Award. He went on to become a Scout Leader and Venture Scout Leader at the 171st, and then taking on the role as Assistant District Commissioner for Venture Scouts for Eastwood.
Family matters took him away from Scouting for around eight years before Ian settled with his family in Houston, Renfrewshire. He re-joined Scouting as the Assistant Scout Leader for Houston Scout Group before taking up his role as District Commissioner at Renfrewshire.
During his period as District Commissioner Renfrewshire enjoyed remarkable success with the opening of three new groups and a significant increase in numbers of Young People and adult leaders.
Ian added: “Scouting is extremely important for the sense of adventure and friendship that young people experience. It is an honour to be able to lead that across our five Districts.
“My key priorities will be in looking at training and compliance and building a region that is sustainable and successful.”
