Do you know your fire steel from your tent peg? If so we are looking for you to join an elite team supporting Scouting in West Region.

A Regional Technical Team has been created as part of the new Regional Development Plan. This team will be led by Colin Bell, Assistant District Commissioner (Adult Training) from Paisley & District and will focus on delivering Module 38 (Skills for Residential Experiences).

This module is for Section Leaders and Supporters who may organise or support residential experiences for young people as part of their role in Scouting. It is intended to introduce the skills related to running residential experiences and linked to the skills needed to gain a Nights Away Permit.  It covers essential Scouting skills such as fire lighting, pioneering, and tent pitching.

Regional Commissioner Stephen Allan said: “There is growing demand throughout the Region to have these essential skills passed on to young people throughout all our sections. We have many adults joining Scouting with no previous outdoor experience who are keen to learn as much as they can. That could be anything from how to plan a full residential camping experience to a Beaver Leader who just wants to offer simple cooking over a wood fire for Beavers.

“However, we need to build a team of skilled Leaders to help us deliver this training. If you are willing and able to be part of this exciting new team, please get in touch.”

There will be no requirement for every leader on the team to attend every time a training session is planned but to build a team of leaders who can help on a rota basis.

The first training session for Module 38 is scheduled at Lapwing Lodge on 23 and 24 April 2017
